Minimum qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Communications, Electrical Engineering, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  
• 5 years of experience with LTE or 5G NR protocols development.
  
• Experience in 3GPP UpperLayer/NAS protocols.
  
• Experience in C/C++ and embedded RTOS.

Preferred qualifications:

• Knowledge of the modem development process.
  
• Ability to manage multiple changes and priorities during the development phase.

About the job

As a Firmware Engineer, you will focus on development, integration, customization, quality and performance enhancement of UpperLayer/Non-Access Stratum (NAS) modem software on Android devices, working closely with Pixel Software teams, Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM) and vendors. You will develop and enhance the modem protocol stack at certain modules, validate the enhancement through unit test and module test, and resolve the issues from certification, field testing, and customers.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to specific modem protocol stack development or expand the domain knowledge vertically, and propose the innovative and practical ideas to optimize the UpperLayer/NAS performance.

Responsibilities

• Develop 3GPP or proprietary UpperLayer/NAS modem protocol/features and fix modem protocol issues from the testing team, certification lab, and customers.
• Develop and optimize Modem protocol voice service, data service, emergency service, system selection performance, and upper layer behaviors.
• Work and design with the Global Carriers Engineering team to meet customer performance and features requirements.
• Collaborate with cross-layer teams, such as Android, IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS), and Layer 1.
